Proverbs 20-23

20:1

Wine is a mocker

Strong drink is a brawler

And whoever is led astray by it is not wise

20:3

It is honorable for a man to stop striving

20:5

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water

But a man of understanding will draw it out

Most men will proclaim each his own goodness

But who can find a faithful man?

The righteous man walks in his integrity

His children are blessed after him

A king who sits on the throne of judgment

Scatters all evil with his eyes

20:13

Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty;

Open your eyes and you will be satisfied with bread.

20;15

There is gold and a multitude of rubies,

But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

20;17

Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man,

But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel

Plans are established by counsel;

By wise counsel wage war

20:20

Whoever curses his father or his mother,

His lamp will be put out in deep darkness

20:27

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord

Searching all the inner depths of his heart.

Mercy and truth preserve the king

And by lovingkindness he upholds his throne

The glory of young men is their strength

And the splendor of old men is their gray head

Blows that hurt cleans away evil

21:1

The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord

Like the rivers of water

He turns it wherever He wishes

21:13

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor

Will also cry himself and not be heard

21:16

A man who wanders from the way of understanding

Will rest in the assembly of the dead

21:21

He who follows righteousness and mercy

Finds life, righteousness, and honor

21:23

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue

Keeps his soul from troubles

A proud and haughty man - "Scoffer" is his name

He acts with arrogant pride

The desire of the lazy man kills him

For his hands refuse to labor

He covets greedily all day long

But the righteous gives and does not spare

22:1

A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches

Loving favor rather than silver and gold

22:5

Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse

He who guards his soul will be far from them

22:10

Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave

Yes, strife and reproach will case

He who loves purity of heart

And has grace on his lips

The king will be his friend

22:17

Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise

22;24

Make no friendship with an angry man

And with a furious man do not go

lest you learn his ways

And set a snare for your soul

22:27

If you have nothing with which to pay

Why should he take away your bed from under you?

Do not remove the ancient landmark

Which your fathers have set

Do you see a man who excels in his work?

He will stand before kings

He will not stand before unknown men

23:4

Do not overwork to be rich

Because of your own understanding, cease!

Will you set your eye son that which is not?

For riches certainly make themselves wings;

They fly away like an eagle toward heaven

23:9

Do not speak in the hearing of a fool,

For he will despise the wisdom of your words

23:12

Apply your heart to instruction

And your ears to words of knowledge

Do not withhold correction from a child

For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die

You shall beat him with a rod

And deliver his soul from hell

My son, if your heart is wise

My heart will rejoice - indeed, I myself

Yes, my inmost being will rejoice

When your lips speak of right things

23:18

For surely there is a hereafter

And your hope will not be cut off

Hear, my son, and be wise

And guide your heart in the way

Do not mix with winebibbers

Or with gluttonous eaters of meat

For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty

23:23

Buy the truth and do not sell it

Also wisdom and instruction and understanding

23:25

Let your father and your mother be glad

And let her who bore you rejoice

My son, give me your heart

And let your eyes observe my ways

For a harlot is a deep pit

And a seductress is a narrow wall

She also lies in wait as for a victim

And increases the unfaithful among men

Who has woe?

Who has sorrow?

Who has contention?

Who has complaints?

Who has wounds without cause?

Who has redness of eyes?

Those who linger long at the wine

Those who go in search of mixed wine.

Do not look on the wine when it is red,

When it sparkles in the cup,

When it swirls around smoothly;

At the last it bites like a serpent,

And stings like a viper

Your eyes will see strange things,

And your heart will utter perverse things

Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea

Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:

"They have struck me, but I was not hurt;

They have beaten me, but I did not feel it.

When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?"

2:18:5
Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth,
To make them lie down safely

4:2:3
They break all restraint,
With bloodshed upon bloodshed
Therefore the land will mourn
And everyone who dwells there will waste away
With the beasts of the field
And the birds of the air
Even the fish of the sea will be taken away

4:7
The more they increased,
The more they sinned against Me;
I will change their glory into shame

4:10:2
They shall commit harlotry, but not increase
Because they have ceased obeying the Lord.
Harlotry, wine, and new wine enslave the heart
My people ask counsel from their wooden idols,
And their staff informs them,
For the spirit of harlotry has caused them to stray.

4:14:5
Therefore, people who do not understand will be trampled.

5:7:3
Now a New Moon shall devour them and their heritage.

5:13:5
Yet he cannot cure you,
Nor heal you or your wound.

5:14:3
I, even I, will tear them and go away,
I will take them away, and no one shall rescue,
I will return again to My place
Till they acknowledge their offense.
Then they will seek My face;
In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.

6:2
For He has torn, but He will heal us;
He has stricken, but He will bind us up.

6:3
Let us know.

6:3:4
He will come to us like the rain.

6:4:3
For your faithfulness is like a morning cloud.
And like the early dew it goes away.

6:5:2
I have slain them by the words of my mouth.

7:2
They do not consider in their hearts
That I remember all their wickedness;
Now their own deeds have surrounded them;
They are before My face.

7:12
Wherever they go, I will spread My net on them;
I will bring them down like birds of the air.

7:13
Woe to them, for they have fled from Me.

7:14
They did not ry out to Me with their heart
When they wailed upon their beds.

8:4
They set up kings, but not by Me
They made princes, but I did not acknowledge them
From their silver and gold
They made idols for themselves.

8:5:3
How long until they attain to innocence?

8:7
They sow the wind
And reap the whirlwind
The stalk has no bud

8:13
For the sacrifices of My offerings they sacrifice flesh and eat it
But the Lord does not accept them.

9:1
Do not rejoice, O Israel, with joy like other peoples,
For you have played the harlot against your God
You have made love for hire on every threshing floor.

9:4
They shall not offer wine offerings to the Lord,
Nor shall their sacricies be pleasing to Him
It shall be like bread of mourners to them,
All who eat it shall be defiled
For their bread shall be for their own life
It shall not come into the house of the Lord.

9:7
The days of punishment have come
The days of recompense have come
Israel knows!
The prohet is a fool
The spiritual man is insane.

9:10:7
They became an abonination like the thing they loved
Their glory shall fly away like a bird
Nor birth, no pregnancy, and no conception

9:14:2
What will You give?
Give them a miscarring womb and dry breasts!

9:15:4
I will drive them from My house;
I will love them no more.

9:17
My God will cast them away
Because they did not obey Him;
And they shall be wanderers amoung the nations.

10:2
Their heart is divided
Now they are held guilty

10:4:3
Judgment springs up like hemlock in the furrows of the field

10:12
Sow for yourselves righteousness;
Reap in mercy;
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the Lord,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

You have plowed wickedness;
You have reaped iniquity
You have eaten the fruit of lies
Because you trusted in your own way.

11:6:2
Devour his districts,
And consume them

11:85
My heart churns within Me;
My sympathy is stirred.
I will not execute the fierceness of My anger;
I will not again destroy
For I am God, and not man
The Holy One in your midst;
And I will not come with terror

12:3:2
In his strength he struggled with God.
Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed;
He wept and sought favor from Him
He found Him
And there He spoke to us

12:6
By the help of your God, return
Observe mercy and justice
And wait on your God continually.

12:10
I have also spoken by the prophets,
And have multiplied visions;
I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets.

13:2:6
Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves!
Therefore they shall be like the morning cloud
And like the early dew that passes away,
Like chaff blown off from a threshing floor
And like smoke from a chimney.

13:2
The iniquity is bound up
The sin is stored up

13:14:5
Pity is hidden from My eyes.

14:2:3
Say to Him
Take away all iniquity
Receive us graciously
For we will offer the sacrifices of our lips

14:3:5
For in You the fatherless finds mercy
I will heal their backsliding
I will love them freely.

14:5:2
He shall grow like the lily
And lengthen his roots
His branches shall spread
His beauty shall be like an olive tree
Those who dwell under his shadow shall return
They shall be revived like grain
And grow like a vine

What have I to do anymore with idols?
I have heared and observed him
I am like a green cypress tree
Your fruit is found in Me.

Who is wise?
Let him understand these things
Who is prudent?
Let him know them
For the ways of the Lord are right
The righteous walk in them
But transgressors stumble in them

What will you do in the appointed day?
